Good morning, lovely bookaholics! I apologise for not posting a lot lately, I have come down with the flu and I can barely leave my bed at all. Apparently I’m not dealing that well with the temperature change 😦 But let’s forget about that!
Today I bring you a beautiful illustrated children’s book, The Night Before Christmas. I was asked by the lovely people of Nursery Box Books to do a review for it, and after taking a look at it, I agreed. It’s just so cute and lovely!
This book is based on Clement Clarke Moore’s famous poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, which has been termed “arguably the best-known verses ever written by an American”. This is not the first variation—nor the first children’s adaptation, for that matter—here is a list of over 1,000 adaptations of this poem.
This book has a twist, though: the protagonists are a cute family of bears. The illustrations of the bear family are adorable, but what caught my eye were the wintry landscapes. There is a page where we get to see the Christmas town with icy peaks in the background, with the full moon shining on the sky.
If I had children, I would love to show them this book. The only downside to it is that some illustrations are repeated (edit: apparently these are animated illustrations, but my e-book reader didn’t pick that up. That’s a shame, I’m sure they are wonderful!), but that is a minor detail. All in all, it’s a beautiful, lavishly illustrated book that children are sure to love.
Let me know what you think about it! 🙂
